#EndImpunity for crimes against journalists

27/10/2016

2 November has been proclaimed the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalist by the United Nations General Assembly. It serves as a reminder of what we must do every day to bring issues of criminal impunity to light

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media in this video makes a point about the importance of ending impunity for crimes against journalists, by recalling the size of this phenomenon: in the last 25 years, 1200 journalists have been killed. Of these cases, 687 are still marked with impunity.

In the OSCE countries alone, 140 journalists have been killed since 1997, perpetuating what could be defined as "censorship by killing".
