This digest has been produced in cooperation with the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ)

The guide covers historical development of the concept of disinformation and the evolution of current crisis on the international level, highlighting historical events on a timeline from Ancient Egypt to current events and their impact. The authors encourage readers and users of the guide to add historical developments or impactful events as well as defensive responses on the national level to enhance the guide.
The guide includes examples of good practice, suggested exercises, readings and assignments to help deepening the understanding and aid in nuanced reporting of ‘fake news’. The publication is designed to serve as a learning module for journalists, journalism trainers and educators, and it is intended to use in news organizations, media development courses and beyond.
