EAPIL Working Group on Anti-SLAPP Directive Transpositions - Stakeholders

The European Association of Private International Law (EAPIL) Working Group on Anti-SLAPP Directive Transpositions is focused on the analysis and promotion of the correct and effective implementation of Directive (EU) 2024/1069 across the Member States of the European Union. The Directive introduces safeguards against strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPPs), which pose a growing threat to freedom of expression and the rule of law. Particular attention is devoted to Articles 16 and 17, which introduce specific rules of private international law (PIL), as well as to other procedural provisions with PIL relevance. By fostering scholarly and practical dialogue, the WG aims to contribute to a consistent and coherent transposition of the Directive, enhancing the protection of democratic debate throughout the European legal space.

The SLAPPs Research Group - Stakeholders

The SLAPPs Research Group is an independent research platform for a balanced and informed perspective on the issue of strategic litigation against public participation (SLAPPs) and anti-SLAPP reform. The Group aims to foster cooperation and interaction between different research perspectives on SLAPPs from around the world.

Press Club of India - Stakeholders

The idea of Press Club of India was first conceived by veteran journalist Mr Durga Das way back in the early 1930s. The Press Club was founded on December 20, 1957 and incorporated as a company on March 10, 1958. It is enshrined in the PCI constitution that the institution is meant to work for media related activities. 

Advocates for the freedom of the press and defends journalists' rights against censorship and other forms of suppression.

Statements & Protests: PCI issues public statements and organizes protests. 

Platform for Debates and Discussion:  It organizes discussions, seminars, and debates on relevant topics related to media freedom and is a venue for press conferences and interaction between various stakeholders..

Legal Assistance: PCI offers support to journalists facing legal challenges, including access to legal resources and advice.

Campaigning: It advocates for better working conditions, fair pay, and the rights of journalists in newsrooms and media houses.

Workshops & Training: It conducts workshops and training sessions for enhancing journalists' skills and promoting best practices in the profession.

Indian Journalists Union (IJU) - Stakeholders

IUJ was established in 1990 with the aim to stand up against each and every act, both by state and non-state actors, aimed to silence the media and gag the truth.

Welfare: IJU works towards the welfare of journalists to ensure better working conditions, better wages, pension schemes and gender equality.

Collective Action: Organizes collective action for issues concerning journalists and joins common cause international organizations to consolidate the fight.

Press Council of India (PCI) - Stakeholders

The Press Council of India is an autonomous body established by the Government of India under the Press Council Act, 1978. PCI aims to help newspapers and news agencies to maintain their independence; to build up a code of conduct of newspapers, news agencies and journalists in accordance with high professional standards,to keep under review any development likely to restrict the supply and dissemination of news of public interest and importance.

Investigates Complaints: PCI sets standards for journalistic ethics and conducts and investigates complaints against journalists.

Safeguarding Press Freedom: Protection of freedom of speech and expression and  ensures that the press is not unduly influenced by the government or other powerful entities.

Resolution of Disputes: PCI acts as a mediator in disputes between journalists and the public, helping to maintain trust between the press and the people it serves.

Issues Advisories: The PCI issues advisories to the press on matters related to journalistic ethics and conduct.

Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation - Stakeholders

The Foundation works to ensure justice for Daphne's assassination and to continue her fight for press freedom and liberal democracy and against populism, corruption and impunity in Malta and internationally.

Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) - Stakeholders

Founded in 1910, the Croatian Journalists’ Association (HND) has more than 2500 members. Its main goals are to defend freedom of speech, freedom of information and journalists’ rights. In 2015, it also founded the Center for Freedom of Expression which provides pro bono legal services and education to journalists. The HND is member of the International Journalist Federation (IFJ).

ECPMF, European Centre for Press and Media Freedom - Stakeholders

The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) is a non-profit organisation that was founded in Leipzig, Germany, 2015.

It operates on the basis of  the European Charter on Freedom of the Press and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

ECPMF’s mission is to promote, preserve and defend media freedom, by monitoring violations, providing practical support and engaging diverse stakeholders across Europe.

ECPMF is the project coordinator of the MFRR, Media Freedom Rapid Response.

Vita Activa - Stakeholders

Vita Activa works as a helpline and a solutions laboratory for women journalists, activists and women’s rights defenders who are facing online violence and want to change the ways they face and combat perpetrators and attacks. Responders trained in psychological first aid, conflict resolution and strategic thinking work with women journalists who have faced harassment to build solutions tailored to their cases.

Vita Activa also provides practical support for women and LGBTIQ+ journalists, activists and gender, land and labor rights, and freedom of expression defenders.
