Ossigeno per l'Informazione

Ossigeno per l’Informazione is a monitoring organization focusing on threatened journalists and news overshadowed by violence in Italy. Ossigeno was established in 2008 by the National Federation of the Italian Press (FNSI) and the Italian Journalists' Order (ODG) together with Libera Informazione, Unione Nazionale Cronisti Italiani and Articolo 21.

Ossigeno aims to document all the Italian cases of violent or abusive limitations on freedom of expression against journalists, writers, intellectuals, politicians, trade unionists, public officials and other citizens, paying special attention to the effects of criminal organisations. The Observatory performs continuous monitoring of threatened journalists, presenting their stories online and through annual reports published in different languages.

Ossigeno also provides pratical support for journalists and media practitioners under threat.

Parliamentary inquiry commission into mafias and other criminal organisations, including foreign ones

Established in 2001, the Commission monitors the implementation of the Italian laws on organised crime. The Commission is also responsible for assessing the nature of the transformations of the mafia phenomenon, as well as the process of internationalisation and cooperation with other criminal organisations aimed at managing new forms of illegal activities. Within the commission, the sub-committee mafia, journalists and world of information monitors the limitations to press freedom caused by organised crime.

Partnership for social development

Partnership for social development is a civil society organization based in Croatia, working in field of active citizenship, public interest, equality, ethics, non-violence and integrity.

From 2013 to 2017, Partnership for social development is implementing the EU funded project Civil Response to Clientelism in Media - MEDIA CIRCLE, monitoring clientelism in six countries of south-east Europe.

The project is implemented with with a consortium comprising eight organizations, including the Expert Forum from Romania; BH journalists and VESTA from Bosnia and Herzegovina; the Public Policy Institute from Montenegro; the Public Association for Research, Communications and Development from FYR Macedonia; the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina and the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights (YUCOM) from Serbia.

Peace Institute

The Peace Institute is a private, independent, non-profit research institution founded in 1991 and situated in Ljubljana (Slovenia). Among the activities of the Institute there are scientific research, advocacy, interdisciplinary research, educational and awareness-raising activities the areas of social science, humanities, anthropology and law, in five thematic fields: human rights and minorities, politics, media, gender and cultural policies. The Peace Institute is member of the South East European Network for Professionalization of Media.

Founded in 1921, today it connects an international community of writers from its Secretariat in London, spanning over 100 countries, with 149 PEN Centres worldwide. PEN's campaigns, events and programmes connect writers and readers, strengthen freedom of expression, defend linguistic rights and promote quality education at the national, regional and international level across the globe. PEN International is a non-political organisation which holds Special Consultative Status at the UN and Associate Status at UNESCO.

Plataforma en Defensa de la Libertad de Información (PDLI)

Plataforma en Defensa de la Libertad de Información (PDLI) is a Spanish civil society group uniting journalists, lawyers, media houses, social movements and consumer advocates.

PDLI arouse out of the concern of a group of organisations and individuals in the legal field, journalism and social movements after the deterioration of freedom of expression and information in Spain, following a series of reforms and the approval of new laws, such as the Organic Law Project on the Protection of Citizen Security, the Intellectual Property Law, the Transparency Law.

Among the activities PDLI carries out, there is the monitoring and dissemination of attacks on freedom of expression against journalists and the media, as well as against activists, social movements and citizens. PDLI also support campaign in defense of media freedom and organise training programs for journalists, activists and social movements on how to safely exercise their profession.

PDLI launched mapea.cc, an online tool to collect data on legal threats to freedom of expression.

Prenons la Une

Prenons la Une is an association of women journalists advocating for fair representation of women in the media and professional equality in newsrooms. The network provides support to women facing discrimination and harassment. The association provides training for women journalists and journalism students, offers legal support to journalists victims of harassment inside their newsrooms and organises events. It also realises investigations for a better representation of women in the media.
