The below-named freedom of expression organisations denounce the lengthy judicial harassment suffered by Reporters Without Borders representative and IPI member Erol Önderoğlu, Turkey’s Human Rights Foundation Chair Şebnem Korur Fincancı and journalist Ahmet Nesin, and call for their full acquittal at the hearing on 15. April 2019, when a verdict is expected.
The three defendants are charged with "engaging in propaganda for a terrorist organisation," "incitement to commit a crime," and "praising criminal activities and those engaged in them" for standing in as guest editors in the "Editors-in-Chief on Watch" solidarity campaign for the shuttered pro-Kurdish daily Özgür Gündem.

On Thursday, UK authorities arrested WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange after the Ecuadorian Embassy in London withdrew his asylum. He had been staying in the embassy for seven years, over fears of being extradited to Sweden and from there to the United States to be prosecuted for publishing a quarter of a million US diplomatic cables online.
The Ecuadorian Embassy, and Ecuador President Lenín Moreno, made it clear that Assange well overstayed his welcome. The Ambassador allowed the Metropolitan Police Service to execute a warrant which magistrates had issued back in 2012. The 47-year-old Assange was taken away in handcuffs.…

The Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) and Serbian public broadcaster Radio Televizija Srbija (RTS) are organising an international conference to commemorate the bombing of RTS by NATO airplanes during the Kosovo War in 1999.

A court in the Serbian capital Belgrade has convicted three men of the 1999 assassination of the journalist, editor and publisher Slavko Curuvija. A fourth man, who is still at large, was also convicted in his absence. Together they must serve jail terms totalling 100 years.
