Media literacy is crucial in order to spot misinformation and hate speech online, and trust in journalism is equally important. According to Tom Law, Director of Campaigns and Communications at the Ethical Journalism Network, journalism can be much more proactive in the way it articulates its role in society and its function to hold the powerful accountable. Independent, fact-based, transparent journalism that shows humanity has a much better chance of giving its audience reasons to trust it.

The interview was given to Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa within a training on media literacy held at the Centre for International Cooperation in Trento.
