This report drafted in 2014 provides an analysis of the 593 killings of journalists as condemned by the Director General of UNESCO between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2013 with an emphasis on cases which took place in 2012 and 2013. It is complemented by statistical annexes and context analysis highlighting the entity and recurrence of casualties among journalists, divided by country and considering also the state of advancement of investigations regarding the crimes against journalists. The report also provides a framework of UNESCO mandate, work plan and activities on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity, as well as of the content of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
