More than one hundred days after investigative reporter Lyra McKee was shot dead during rioting in Northern Ireland, no-one has been charged in connection with her death.

On 2. August her book about a terrorist outrage during the civil war known as ”The Troubles” is being published posthumously. Titled Angels with Blue Faces, it’s the result of Lyra McKee’s research over five years into the death in 1981 of South Belfast MP Robert Bradford. He was shot dead by the IRA, together with the caretaker of the community centre…

The ECPMF and Article 19 have made a UPR Submission on the situation of freedom of expression in Spain for the 35th Session of the Working Group in January 2020.
The submission raises our concerns for freedom of expression in Spain. In particular we raise issues relating to legislative restrictions on freedom of expression and their implementation, including:
Insult- “Lèse majesté”- “Insult” of the State, public bodies and State symbols-“Insult” of persons
Insulting religious feelings
Terrorism offences-Incitement and glorification of terrorism
Hate speech

Along with four other media freedom organisations, the ECPMF co-signed a statement, raising concern over the amendments of the "anti-defamation" package and calling the Albanian government to withdraw two bills of the law draft.

On 3 July the Albanian Government’s Council of Ministers approved a series of amendments known as the “antidefamation package” which include amendments to law Nr.97/2013 “On Audio Visual Media in the Republic of Albania and law Nr.9918 “On Electronic Communications in the Republic of Albania.” The legislative package is a cosmetic review of highly-criticised amendments submitted in December 2018.
