The results of the Special Eurobarometer on Online platforms, conducted in 2016, builds on a survey answered by 27'969 European citizens.
The survey explores the use of online platforms within the EU, focusing especially on search engines, online social networks and online marketplaces. In particular, it assesses the level of awareness on topics such as the collection and use of personal data by search engines; the existence and impact of sponsored contents; the overall trust in the functioning and results provided by search engines.
