The cycle of seminars aims at promoting knowledge about present violations of academic freedom and at advocating for the rights of higher education members in pursuing research, teaching and education.

This first edition will be online and will feature four scholars who have been involved in protection programs within Italian universities.

They will discuss the situation of academic freedom in specifc contexts as well as present their current research activities. The introductory roundtable and the individual seminars are open to all members of universities, public institutions, and national/international organisations. The working language will be English.

Chaired by Ester Gallo (University of Trento), the roundtable will start at 5 pm on Friday 25 September and will host Asli Vatansever (Humbolt University-Berlin and University of Padova), Albert Schram (University of Maryland Global Campus – Europe) and Delal Aydin (Scuola Normale Superiore Pisa).

There will be speeches by Maurizio Tira (CRUI Delegate for International Affairs and Rector of the University of Brescia), Elena Cattaneo (Senate of the Republic), Stefania Pucciarelli (President of the Senate of the Italian Republic Commission for Human Rights), and Michele Telaro (UNHCR-Italy).
