This kind of abuse of the law threatens democracy, intimidates activists and human rights defenders, and prevents journalists from doing their job in giving access to information to a wider audience.

The European Commission, after closing the public consultation, is ready to work on the issue, and the 23rd March could be the date of a new directive, or of another measure, legislative or non-legislative.
