Several journalists were attacked in protests against nationalist politician Aleksandar Vučić during his inauguration as the new President of Serbia on Wednesday.
Different NGOs report that protesters and journalists from outlets such as Insajder Production, Vice, Radio Belgrade, and the daily newspaper Danas were insulted and intimidated. The attacks came from security personel as well as Vučić supporters while Belgrade police were just looking on for most of the time.
Radomir Ličina, senior editor of Danas and acting president of the SEEMO board, told the ECPMF:
Our journalist was prevented with brutal force from doing her basic job."

This summer, the German parliament is deciding on nothing less but freedom of expression on the web.

With the so called "Facebook law" – the Social Network Enforcement Bill, or Netzwerkdurchsetzungsgesetzes (NetzDG) – Germany is trying to fight hate speech and misinformation on the internet. This inevitably will interfere with fundamental democratic values of freedom of expression.

Demonstrators have gathered in the Georgian capital Tbilisi in support of Afghan Mukhtarli, the exiled journalist who was taken by unknown persons to Azerbaijan where he is now on trial.

Two journalists were injured whilst 21 more were assaulted, threatened, and barred, or their equipment seized, during the storming of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. The incidents took place in the capital, Skopje, on Thursday, 27 April 2017.
The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (ZNM) told the ECPMF fact-finding delegation on the spot that the injured journalists were Dimitar Tanurov, a reporter for the online Meta news agency, and Nikola Ordevski, a cameraman with the Makfax news agency. Ordevski was even treated and hospitalised with a concussion, according to local media.
