Fact-finding mission Baltics: "journalism is journalism, and media is media"

End of January 2018, EFJ and ECPMF went on a joint fact-finding mission to the Baltics. In Lithuania and Estonia, representatives of the media freedom organisations met with journalists, business people and the authorities. The mission was triggered by the question if disinformation and fake news could destabilise the region. The Baltics were chosen in the wake of a wave of disinformation spread by Russian specialists during the US election campaign. Motion lodged in Scottish Parliament based on Index's media freedom research

Great success for ECPMF's partner Index on Censorship: A Scottish politician lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament on 27 March on media freedom following Index on Censorship’s annual Mapping Media Freedom report, crediting its authors for “their continued endeavours to defend media freedom and protect journalists”. Mapping Media Freedom, Index on Censorship’s project monitoring threats to media freedom in 42 European and neighbouring countries, recorded 1,089 violations in 2017.
