EU: New EU Data Protection Guidelines for Whistleblowing Cases
by Sebastian SchwedaOn 18 July 2016, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) released new ‘Guidelines on processing personal information within a whistleblowing procedure’. The Guidelines are addressed to EU institutions and bodies and aim to provide practical orientation as to how to comply with Regulation (EG) No. 45/2001, regulating the protection of personal data by these bodies, in whistleblowing cases. The main purpose of the Guidelines is to protect whistle-blowers from retaliatory action.
