Digital security do's and don'ts for journalists

This article by Katya Podkovyroff Lewis published on Apr 23, 2020 for IJNet, the International Journalists' Network, gives an overview of recommendations to reporters for their digital security.

Among the recommended things to do, there is the two-factor authentication, described as "the first, basic step for data security".

Furthermore, the tips include getting a virtual private network (VPN), encrypting one's data, both in transit and at rest, and managing the number of people, and applications, with access to someone's account.

The main recommendation among the things to be avoided, is to distinguish among data and don’t treat all data the same.

All tips and answers to several issues concerning digital security were taken from the webinar organized by IJNet, with Rajan Kapoor , director of security at Dropbox , and Sérgio Spagnuolo , former ICFJ former TruthBuzz Fellow and head of data journalism agency and consultancy Volt Data Lab .
