Safety of data and communication is endangered by different sources, ranging from targeted attempts to more generic collection such as the dragnet surveillance. Journalists are affected by these threats more acutely than other categories, and shall therefore develop awareness and appropriate strategies to protect their work, their sources and communication flows. This manual addresses several aspects and activities which are sensitive from the point of view of digital security, inviting journalists to consider this issue as a systemic one. The manual then makes clear that it is not enough to use encrypted emails if other part of the system one uses for work are vulnerable. From browsing to encryption to the use of password, this manual help considering all possible source of threat and to approach them in the appropriate way.
