#CheckItFirst aims at encouraging ethical journalism as a crucial defense against misinformation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Serbia. As part of this initiative, journalists in the region are encouraged to participate in ARTICLE 19’s Ethical Journalism Awards and publicly demonstrate their commitment to the professional standards grounded in the principles of ethical journalism. 

#CheckItFirst invites journalists to submit news stories that exemplify the application and advocacy of ethical journalism principles. Submissions should showcase how rigorous information verification and fact-checking processes positively impacts the accuracy, objectivity, and reliability of reporting.
