The report draws on the alerts raised on the Platform and related evidence to highlight key areas of law, policy and practice where partner organisations consider that actions are urgently required.
The report also acknowledges the adoption of good practices and constructive reforms by states that promote effective protection and redress for violations under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
It is conscructed with thematic sessions, such as Physical attacks, harassment and intimidation; Effects of Covid-19 and lockdown measures on press freedom; SLAPPs, criminalisation of journalism, judicial harassment, misuse of law and defamation; Impunity; Surveillance, intelligence, state monitoring, independent safeguards and oversights; Media capture; Public service media;Online harassment: a growing threat to journalists; Partners’ assessment and recommendations on EU policy and practice.
A special focus is devoted to Member states responses, to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh and to the situation in Belarus.
