For the Committee on Legal Affairs and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, the Rapporteurs MEP Tiemo Wölken and MEP Roberta Metsola drafted an initiative report with a motion for a EP Resolution about SLAPPs

This draft is scheduled to be presented to the Assembly on 28 June 2021, and to be voted in October.

The proposal aims at pushing the Commission to tackle the problem of strategic lawsuits against public participation, that is widespread in Europe: "SLAPPs have become an increasingly widespread practice used against journalists, academics, civil society and NGOs, as demonstrated by many cases throughout the Union".
