Across Europe, censorship and media freedom violations take different forms. Through a partnership between Index on Censorship, European Federation of Journalists and Reporters Without Borders, the programme maps the state of media freedom by crowdsourcing reports from journalists, press freedom watchdogs and others committed to improve freedom of expression and information in the region.
Monitoring and mapping media freedom violations is the first step to fight impunity, analyse threats and challenges, and provide appropriate support to journalists at risk. Mapping Media Freedom aims to support all media professionals by equipping them with a tool that outlines risk in each country and offers solutions for change via awareness campaigns, policy recommendations and training.
This monitoring tools is co-funded by the European Commission and includes among its affiliates European Youth Press, Media Legal Defence Initiative, Human Rights House, Ossigeno per l'Informazione, Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso and the ECPMF project.
