Press Club of India - Stakeholders

The idea of Press Club of India was first conceived by veteran journalist Mr Durga Das way back in the early 1930s. The Press Club was founded on December 20, 1957 and incorporated as a company on March 10, 1958. It is enshrined in the PCI constitution that the institution is meant to work for media related activities. 

Advocates for the freedom of the press and defends journalists' rights against censorship and other forms of suppression.

Statements & Protests: PCI issues public statements and organizes protests.

Civil Rights Defenders - Stakeholders

An Expert Organisation for Human Rights. CRD partners with and supports human rights defenders who work in some of the world’s most repressive regions on four continents.

Through advocacy, litigation, and public campaigns, CRD advances people’s rights globally. The organisation also acts as Sweden’s watchdog civil rights group.

Every year, CRD has The Civil Rights Defender of the Year Award, an award for outstanding work in defence of civil and political rights, to recognise a prominent human rights defender who, despite the risk to their own safety, continues the struggle for civil and political rights.
The award highlights the situation of human rights defenders at risk. It enhances their human rights work by providing international recognition and support to the organisation represented by the award recipient. The award recipient is a person who carries out their work without the use of violence and within an independent human rights organisation or network.

Among the support activities, there are security training, emergency support, expertise, organisational development, and long-term financial support.

CRD also brings together its partners so they can exchange experiences, as well as learn from and inspire each other.

Independent Journalism Center of Moldova - Stakeholders

The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) is one of the first media organizations in Moldova. It was founded in 1994 as a project of the Open World House, and in 1998 it became an independent organization.

Currently, the IJC defines its mission through the prism of democratic values by contributing to the consolidation of free and viable media — including new media — by means of training programs for journalists, media education, advocacy campaigns, research, and non-profit journalistic products. From a legal point of view, the IJC is a non-governmental, non-commercial, and apolitical organization.

Over the years, the IJC has launched and carried out various projects to improve both working conditions for journalists in Moldova and the national legal framework governing the media. Also, various actions have been conducted in support of press freedom or to strengthen the solidarity of the media community and to promote professional ethics.

Since February 2000, the IJC has been a member of the South East European Network for the Professionalization of the Media (SEENPM) and since June 2001 has been a member of the International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX).

The IJC currently manages four portals: Media Azi which is used to publish media news, information about IJC activities, reports, and studies; Mediacritica, designed to promote media literacy and critical thinking; Moldova Azi, a multimedia resource providing access to all video materials produced by the IJC Campaign and Production Department; and the website of the School of Advanced Journalism.

Media Literacy Institute - Stakeholders

MEDIA LITERACY INSTITUTE (MLI) is a non-profit organization founded in 2017 in Greece. Its aim is to promote and disseminate the concepts of Media and Information Literacy in Greece, Europe and internationally. Media and Information Literacy aims at the critical perception, use and creation of knowledge and information οn any traditional or modern communication medium, and requires the acquisition of cognitive, functional, technical and communication skills, as well as the capabilities of using modern means of communication. The mission of the Institute is to inform the Greek public about the conceptual, theoretical, regulatory and practical framework in which MIL concepts are developed. Its goal is to mobilize citizens and to provide them with opportunities to access the relevant information, skills, tools and means and to engage in appropriate activities to become media literate.

MLI supports the idea that democracy requires well-informed citizens and that Media and News Literacy are among the most important ways to combat bias and hate speech online, to promote the fundamental right of citizens to be self-aware when they interact with the media, to learn how to cross check resources, to develop skills of inquiry when investigating the resources, creators and purposes of any content, so that readers can distinguish reliable information from “fake news”, personal opinions, prejudices or propaganda.

MEDIA LITERACY INSTITUTE focuses on printed and online content such as social media, mass media, all kinds of public and frequently used communication platforms, as well as various online and offline sources. In this context, MLI emphasizes that modern active citizens of all ages need to develop the habits of curiosity,  research and creative questioning along with suitable expression skills, to cultivate the necessary critical thinking in getting information from any source, and to acquire the knowledge on how to create and use multimedia messages.

Investigative Journalism Center of Moldova - Stakeholders

The Investigative Journalism Center of Moldova (Centrul de Investigatii Jurnalistice) is a non-governmental organisation created in 2003. Its main goals include improving the quality of investigative journalism in Moldova, strengthening the skills of investigative journalists, promoting best practices and techniques for investigative journalism, and conducting public awareness campaigns.

The Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom (CPBF) is a civil society organization based in the UK. It has been working for ‘a more accountable, freer and diverse media’ since 1979. CPBF is active in defending the principles of public service broadcasting and to argue for democratically accountable forms of broadcasting regulation.

The Campaign firmly believes that broadcasting is a public service as fundamental to the well-being of our democracy as our education and health systems, and should under no circumstances be treated as merely a producer of commodities

International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) - Stakeholders

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is the world's largest organisation of journalists. First established as the Fédération Internationale des Journalistes (FIJ) in 1926 in Paris, it was relaunched as the International Organization of Journalists (IOJ) in 1946 but lost its Western members to the Cold War and re-emerged in its present form in 1952 in Brussels. Today the Federation represents around 600,000 members in 140 countries.

IFJ promotes international action to defend press freedom and social justice through strong, free and independent trade unions of journalists. Its Safety Programme includes casework, protests, campaigns, information and production of various publications. The Safety Fund, established in 1992, is an integral part of this programme that provides immediate financial relief to journalists in financial straits as a result of work-related reasons, such as:

  • Forced exile due to threats at home
  • Litigation
  • Medical Expenses
  • Travel costs

The request for assistance has to be submitted either to the IFJ regional offices in the applicant’s region or directly to the IFJ Human Rights and Communications Officer in Brussels.

Cartoonists Rights Network International (CRNI) - Stakeholders

The Cartoonists Rights Network International (CRNI) advocates for political cartoonists, defending their right to free speech. It was the first cartoon-focused human rights organization when it was founded in 1992. It organizes international campaigns for cartoonist as well as it has helped cartoonists to seek asylum from countries where they have been threatened, or suffered harassment, often from government authorities.

Plataforma en Defensa de la Libertad de Información (PDLI) - Stakeholders

Plataforma en Defensa de la Libertad de Información (PDLI) is a Spanish civil society group uniting journalists, lawyers, media houses, social movements and consumer advocates.

PDLI arouse out of the concern of a group of organisations and individuals in the legal field, journalism and social movements after the deterioration of freedom of expression and information in Spain, following a series of reforms and the approval of new laws, such as the Organic Law Project on the Protection of Citizen Security, the Intellectual Property Law, the Transparency Law.

Among the activities PDLI carries out, there is the monitoring and dissemination of attacks on freedom of expression against journalists and the media, as well as against activists, social movements and citizens. PDLI also support campaign in defense of media freedom and organise training programs for journalists, activists and social movements on how to safely exercise their profession.

PDLI launched mapea.cc, an online tool to collect data on legal threats to freedom of expression.

Sindikat medija Crne Gore - Trade Union of Media of Montenegro - Stakeholders

The Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (Sindikat medija Crne Gore) deals with contractual disputes between staff and employers and provides journalists legal support, but it also participates in public-awareness campaigns around specific policy or regulatory issues that impact journalists’ reporting practices and rights.
