IJF18: Going digital. A roadmap for digital transformation

Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism’s senior research fellows Lucy Kueng and David Levy dig into the main findings of the report “Going Digital. A roadmap for organisational transformation” at the 2018 International Journalism Festival with Renée Kaplan, head of digital editorial development at the Financial Times, and Inga Thordar, executive director at CNN Digital Worldwide.

Kueng’s premise is that legacy media need to put as much emphasis on transforming their organisations as they do on transforming their content. She identifies four common elements in the most successful organisations: i) long-term strategic goals; ii) rigorous assessment of the ‘shiny new things’, that is the courage to exit low-potential business areas; iii) strong leadership supported by a multi-disciplinary team skilled in technology and data; iv) cultural acceptance.
