International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX)

The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) was established as an NGO in 1968 in Washington DC. The official mission of the NGO is to sustain individuals and institutions in order to enable a vibrant society. One of its seven areas of intervention is media development. Every year, IREX issues the Media Sustainability Index (MSI), with funding from USAID, providing in-depth analyses of the conditions for independent media in 80 countries across the world.

International Women’s Media Foundation

Founded in 1990 by a group of prominent U.S. women journalists, the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is a Washington-based organization that is dedicated to strengthening the role of women journalists worldwide. The IWMF believes the news media worldwide are not truly free and representative without the equal voice of women. The IWMF celebrates the courage of women journalists who overcome threats and oppression to speak out on global issues.

Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network

Established in 2012, the Internet & Jurisdiction (I&J) Policy Network enables multi-stakeholder cooperation among civil society, academia, technical operators, international organizations, states and internet platforms to address the tension between the cross-border nature of the internet and national jurisdictions facilitating the development of global policy standards. Three thematic programs are currently carried out: Data & Jurisdiction, Content & Jurisdiction, Domains & Jurisdiction. The I&J Observatory keeps track of jurisdictional trends around the world.

Internews

Internews is an international non-profit organization. It aims at empowering local media worldwide and to provide people a mean to make their voices heard. It also carries out research and training activities addressed both to media professionals and citizen journalists. Internews has worked in more than 90 countries, and currently has offices in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America.

Investigative Journalism Center of Moldova

The Investigative Journalism Center of Moldova (Centrul de Investigatii Jurnalistice) is a non-governmental organisation created in 2003. Its main goals include improving the quality of investigative journalism in Moldova, strengthening the skills of investigative journalists, promoting best practices and techniques for investigative journalism, and conducting public awareness campaigns.

Investigative Journalists of Armenia (HETQ)

Hetq Online has been published since 2001 in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, by the Association of Investigative Journalists NGO. It has been publishing its articles and investigations also in English since 2002. In 2004, the organisation re-registered as the Investigative Journalists NGO. Since 2017, it has been conducting a programme to help develop investigative journalism in Central Asia.

Investigative Reporting Project Italy (IRPI)

Investigative Reporting Project Italy (IRPI), is an association of investigative journalists based in Italy whom are experimenting new approaches, production and distribution models of investigative journalism. IRPI is the first of its kind in Italy and it favours topics such as the public spending, organised crime, environmental impoverishment, corporate policiesthat lead to illegal profits or social injustice, investigating stories through a transnational angle. It also provides the first Italian platform for whistleblowers .

As stated in its manifest, the association addresses a globalised citizenship through international media. IRPI has established itself as an independent organisation and it carries out its investigations thanks to funds raised through a mix of donations from foundation and grants for journalists.

Italian Coalition for Civil Liberties and Rights (CILD)

Founded in 2014, the Italian Coalition for Civil Liberties and Rights (Coalizione Italiana Libertà e Diritti Civili, CILD) is a network of civil society organizations that protect and expand the rights and liberties of all, through a combination of advocacy, public education and legal action (further details on practical support here).

Their work focuses on racism and xenophobia, migrations, Italian penal and penitentiary systems, privacy and surveillance, transparency and access to public information.

IViR - Institute for Information Law

Established in 1989, the Institute for Information Law (IViR) engages in cutting-edge research on a wide spectrum of information related themes including intellectual property law, broadcasting regulation, freedom of expression, media law, et cetera aiming to provide an international forum for critical debate.

Journalismfund.eu

Journalismfund.eu, a non-profit organisation, is dedicated to advancing investigative and independent journalism across Europe. It ultimately serves the public interest, furthers accountability as well as transparency, and contributes to critical thinking and well-informed debate.

Journalismfund.eu provides practical support for journalists.
