Media4Democracy

Media4Democracy is an EU-funded Technical Assistance Facility strengthening the European Union Delegations’ ability to implement the EU Human Rights Guidelines on Freedom of Expression Online and Offline.

Its mission is to support the EU Delegations’ broad and coherent implementation of the EU Guidelines on Freedom of Expression and to help them to identify, design and implement appropriate near-, medium- and long-term actions.

Media4Democracy is based in Brussels and provides advocacy support and capacity building services to all EU Delegations (EUDs) worldwide, as well as customised technical support to individual EU Delegations.

Mediacentar Sarajevo

Mediacentar Sarajevo supports the development of independent and professional journalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Over time, activities have been expanded to include:

• training programmes;
• publishing;
• media research;
• PR training and consulting services;
• AV production;
• event management;

An integral part of Mediacentar is Infobiro , an archive of print media from B-H and the former Yugoslavia and a library containing literature on mass media. Mediacentar also publish a regional journal on culture and literature called Sarajevske Sveske (Sarajevo Notebooks) . Mediacentar was founded by Open Society Fund of B-H in 1995 in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. In 2000 it was registered as a separate education and research institution owned by Open Society Fund of B-H.

MEDIADEM

MEDIADEM was a European research project lasted from April 2010 to March 2013 focusing on the factors that promote or conversely prevent the development of policies supporting free and independent media.

The project combined a country-based study in Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and the UK with a comparative analysis across media sectors and various types of media services. It investigated the configuration of media policies in the aforementioned countries and examined the opportunities and challenges generated by new media services for media freedom and independence. Moreover, external pressures on the design and implementation of state media policies, stemming from the European Union and the Council of Europe, are thoroughly discussed and analysed.

The coordinator of the project has been the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy.

MEMO 98

MEMO 98 conducts media monitoring and analyses, targeting the public and policy makers, on the role of media in the election processes. MEMO 98 monitoring activity is based on international standards concerning the media and the electoral process and democratic governance. Their mission is ensuring all citizens to have free access to comprehensive information. Their primary objective of MEMO 98's monitoring is to evaluate the range of political and social diversity in media reporting.

The association has been working for 19 years in Slovakia and abroad. The most significant international projects carried out by MEMO 98 were conducted in the former Yugoslavia (2000), Belarus (2001, 2004, 2007 and 2008), Ukraine (2004, 2015-2016), Russia (2005-11, 2015), Azerbaijan (2008, 2013-2015), Myanmar (2010-11 and 2015-16), Serbia (2012-2014) and Georgia (2013-2015).

Mérték Media Monitor

The Mertek Media Monitor is a watchdog organisation and think tank founded in 2011 in Budapest to contribute to the Hungarian and European discourse on freedom of expression and press freedom. Mertek Media Monitor promotes the transparency of media policy decisions, evaluates media policy measures and lays out its own policy proposals.

Metamorphosis Foundation for Internet and Society

The Metamorphosis Foundation for Internet and Society is active in the promotion of democracy, transparency and media freedom in Macedonia. It carries out a number of different activities, with a special focus on trainings and advocacy campaigns, and it runs several projects and programs in several fields related to innovation, rights, and transparency.

MIDAS

Founded in 2001, the European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional Languages (MIDAS) stimulates cooperation in the areas of information exchange, printing and marketing within an ever-growing community of minority daily newspapers throughout Europe. MIDAS also provides opportunities such as study visit programmes for journalists to report on minority protection and cultural diversity in Europe; it awards the Otto Von Hasburg Prize and the Midas Prize for Journalism .

Montenegro Institute for Media

Montenegro Institute for Media is a non-profit and non-political organisation devoted to the improvement of professional standards of journalism in Montenegro by training journalists and media professionals. The institute is part of South East European Network for Professionalization of Media

n-ost Network for Reporting on Eastern Europe

The Network for Reporting on Eastern Europe n-ost is a Berlin-based organisation which links 250 journalists and media initiatives from more than twenty European countries. Members of n-ost are against any restrictions that limit journalistic endeavour. The focus of n-ost is on detailed reports from and about Eastern Europe and on organizing Europe-wide journalistic projects on the promotion of media freedom and a European public sphere.

National Union Of Journalists (NUJ)

Founded on January 23, 1972 in New Delhi by eminent journalists, the National Union of Journalists (India) is a national organization dedicated to the cause of journalism. The main aim of the organization is to fight for the rights of media persons.

Promotes Journalistic Standards and Ethics: NUJ arranges training for journalists in order to improve standards of work.

Maintains institutes of Journalism at state and national level.

Defends Press Freedom: Promote, safeguard, and defend the professional interests, welfare, and status of journalists.

Establish funds for employment, sickness, death benefits, or other kinds of benefits for members and help members secure employment when necessary.

Legislative Advocacy: Works for and promotes legislation for the economic and professional welfare of journalists.

Representation in Government: Secures representation for journalists in delegations sent abroad by the Government of India or any State Government and on commissions that seek public opinion.

Legal Aid: To build up and administer funds for the provision of legal aid, pension, and other benefits.

Publishing: To conduct, maintain, and publish journals, own and run printing presses for NUJ(I).

International Cooperation: To develop contacts with organizations in other countries having similar objectives, and secure representation for journalists on delegations and commissions.
