Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom - Stakeholders

The Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom (CMPF) is a project co-financed by the European Union in the framework of the European Commission’s on-going effort to improve the protection of media pluralism and media freedom in Europe.

The Centre is headed by Professor Pier Luigi Parcu and its residential team  is composed of experts in the following areas: legal studies, new media policies, media markets and economics,  political science and political communications. It is also supported by a Group of Experts. The centre headquarters are in Fiesole (Florence). 

The aim of the EUI Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom is to enhance the awareness of the importance of freedom and pluralism of the media, to contribute to its protection and promotion and to develop new ideas among academics, policy makers, regulators, market stakeholders, journalists, and all other directly involved professionals who take part in the public debate.

The Centre carries out four specific activities:

The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) is the largest organization for journalists in Europe, representing over 320,000 journalists in 68 journalists’ organisations across 42 countries. EFJ has its headquarters in Brussel.

Established in 2009, the Alliance of Lawyers for Human Rights (Alliance des Avocats pour les droits de l'homme, AADH) is a worldwide organization providing legal support to organizations dedicated to the protection of human and environmental rights, including NGOs that provide legal support for journalist associations. Bar Pro Bono Unit, a Clearing House operating in England and Wales, is a contact point between the public in need of legal advice and lawyers. People in need of legal aid and unable to afford to pay it, can apply to the organization and in case they meet the criteria are matched with a lawyer willing to donate his/her time and expertise to the case. bar Pro Bono Unit is active in support of organizations dealing with media professionals' rights.
